The tournament will be either a Swiss-system or round-robin tournament spanning a week, depending on the number of teams participating. Each player will play at most five rounds of chess with 15 minutes per player (one round per day). The exact number of rounds will be announced after the number of teams are determined. During each round, teams would be pitted against each other. The combined game points gained from the three tables, which is determined by the results on each board, determines the result of the match, which in turn determines the match points.
E.g. Team A is paired against Team B. The player playing Tbl 1 of Team A would play against the Tbl 1 of Team B, Tbl 2 of Team A would play against Tbl 2 of Team B, and Tbl 3 of Team A would play against Tbl 3 of Team B. Team A Tbl 1 wins, Team B Tbl 2 wins. Tbl 3 draws. Both teams earn 1.5 game points in the match, so the match is tied. Both teams earn 1 match point for the round.
Match Points System:
Win = 2 points
Tie = 1 point
Lose = 0 points
Game Points System:
Win = 1 point
Draw = 1/2 point
Lose = 0 points
As per official rules, two repeated violations of tournament rules will result in an automatic loss. Example violations include but are not limited to:
- Touching a piece and moving another piece
- Changing your mind after making your move
- Not touching the clock with the same hand you used to make your move
- Removing opponent's pieces while he/she isn't looking
The winner will be decided based on the number of match points gained after the all rounds are finished. If there are ties, tiebreaks to decide the final standings will be in the following order: Game Points, Direct Encounter, and either Buchholz Cut 1 or Sonneborn-Berger (depending on swiss or round-robin tournament format).
